A well-proportioned small Romanesque church of St. Jerome in Korlat had a barrel vault over its one nave. It was built right next to the important medieval road between the Croatian centers of Nin and Knin, which the sources refer to as Via Magna (the Great Road). A large portion of this road ran through the Benkovac area. The church is now just a heap of rubble - it was completely demolished by the Serb militia during the war in Croatia.

After Hungarian King Ladislas of Naples sold Dalmatia to Venice in 1409, the village of Korlat remained under Croatian Ban's rule. It was the home of the noble family of Korlatović that gave the village its name. Their castle in Korlat is recorded in 1505 and in 1536 it was taken and burned by the Turks.
