Description

The Regional Museum is a branch of the Archaeological Museum in Zadar. It was founded in 1984, and housed in Kaštel, the medieval castle. The permanent exhibition of the museum included ethnographical, cultural and historical objects, as well as archaeological finds from about a hundred sites in Benkovac area. The exhibition was designed to follow historical periods from the paleolithic to the Middle Ages. Visitors are required to announce their arrival by phone. The person to contact is Mr. Hrvoje Mijić, the curator, and the number is 023/681120.

State

The museum curators and other staff were prevented from accessing the museum and its collection in the period 1991-95. In August 1995, the museum building and material were found in an unkempt state. Inventory books weren't found. A revision of the museum material has not, as yet, been done, which is why the damage estimate can't be determined. A certain amount of the material is known to be missing, though.
